Medical Cannabis for Veterans

Veterans are people that can benefit quite a lot from Cannabis. If you’re in a state with a program, you might want to check it out. The VA’s office has made it very simple to get the medical card, and all of the cannabis that’s there offers you a chance to improve your symptoms and get some relief too!~

Why would Veterans Pursue this

Veterans of all kinds might have some symptoms from the injuries that they got when they served. Some of them can be so chronic that they burden their whole life. And while medications can help, it doesn't fix everything.

Another thing too, is that some veterans can also get some chronic conditions that don’t fix itself naturally. Some may start to take opiates to help with improving their pain, but they do have some health risks for the long term that aren’t worth it, including the development of addiction.

Medical cannabis is good to help with this, so that veterans don’t have to worry about possibly abusing these. They can also get help for their diseases which are chronic, anxiety, disability, or pain that’s intractable and it also has the chance to boost the life quality for those who absolutely need it.

How do you Get One/

A veteran can get it pretty easily. The laws in the states do vary, but as long as you’ve been diagnosed with one of the health conditions to qualify, you can get medical cannabis for this.  They do need to give you a health check, and they usually look at the diagnosis, the symptoms, and how severe the condition is. They also may discuss the history and health that you have, and the medications being taken currently to ensure that cannabis used medically is a safe, and effective choice.

Once you pass the health check, then you get some kind of medical cannabis recommended to you. They may also look at different recommendations based on whether or not certain strains are safe for you to use. If you get one of these, you then must complete that process, join the registry for medical cannabis, and the plan for treatment.

You do need to get it renewed, but they’ll tell you when that happens so you can plan ahead.

The conditions it can help with

Every single person who comes in does have different needs they need to manage. Veterans are usually concerned that they’re unable to hit the criteria for the approval of a medical card.  They may wonder if they can join.

Due to the impact of the military on emotions and physical well-being, a lot of veterans tend to have a lot more qualifying conditions than not.

PTSD is one of the most common ones that’s seen, due to the nature of the situation they were in. chronic pain is something else too that’s seen a lot, due to military demand, and about half of veterans that come in for this do have some sort of care for that.

Insomnia is another, as a lot of veterans do have it, due to the combat they had to suffer to face as well. Then there is cancer, as there are carcinogens that they deal with on the daily, increasing the risk for cancer development.

Finally, there is depression, anxiety, and disorders of adjustment, which is something that a lot of veterans deal with after they’ve returned to civilian life.  If you have any of these, medical cannabis is perfect for you.  You’ll want to also look at the way it might impact the VA benefits.
